A lot fewer people who have heard about camouflage know what a ghillie suit is. And unless you are looking very hard, you might never see it at all. Landowners would hire men to go around their land and repel poachers in the beginnings of the ghillie suit. They were known as ghillies and would craft suits from cloth and frayed textiles to hide themselves in the bushes and wait forpoachers.Nowadays a variety of operations, from military sniping to paintballing are performed in the ghillie suit. The technology remains the same even though the materials have changed over time. Even when the enemy or mark comes within a really close range to them, the modern day ghillie suit wearer can remain undetected and look like a pile of brush in the woods.Because of their uncomplicated concept and effectiveness, ghillie suits have been associated with sniping. The art of sharpshooting started about the period of time of the conclusion of the eighteenth century. Rebels would shoot at opposing armies from hidden locations to defeat and break the spirits of the opposition. Snipers became popular when rifles became more accurate and a shooter could be over 100 meters away from their mark. The technique in which wars were carried out was changed because of the implementation of snipers. Before sharpshooters were used commanders would stand with troops and give orders during a war. Infantry combat went from direct engagements to sheltered, flanking tactics as more and more commanders were killed. To keep from being shot, commanders had to try and blend in with the lower-ranking troopers. covered areas such as forests and mountains became the choice area over open areas as shooting techniques became more prevalent. The rules of engagement that troops before held onto was abandoned as more brutal and hidden techniques were used in combat. All sides had ghillie suits during WWI to kill high-ranking officers and break the spirits of enemy troops. The ability to stay unseen for shooters lies within the suit; materials hang down and give the assassin incredible camouflage protection. Whatever climate they are in, there are so many styles of the suit that the wearer can blend in with their surroundings anywhere. A desert ghillie suit, for example, will look a lot different than a ghiilie suit for the woods.Modern day snipers still continue to use the suit for protection and cover while on imperative operations. Since a sniper often works alone or with only one other person the talent to stay unseen is necessary for a shooter's safety. A well-made suit to cover the sniper is the most important asset asside from the rifle. A sniper's life would be severly compromised if they didn't have the ability to stay unseen until it was time to shoot. To an sniper, the getaway is just as crucial as the actual shooting. Many times during the getaway the sharpshooter will use the camouflage of the ghillie suit to get them out without harm.
