A lot fewer people who know about camouflage have heard of what a ghillie suit is. You might not see it at all unless you are really looking carefully. The camouflage remains the same even though the textiles have changed over the years. Even when the opposition or mark comes within a very close range to them, the modern day ghillie suit wearer can remain undetected and look like a pile of brush in the forest.Because of their simple design and high efficiency, ghillie suits have always been synonymous with sharpshooting. The art of sniping started about the time of the end of the eighteenth century. Rebels would shoot at enemies from hidden locations to destroy and demoralize the enemy. Assassins came about when rifles became more accurate and sharpshooter could be over 100 meters from their target.The implementation of shooters in military engagements changed the way wars were fought. Officers would stand with battalions and give orders during battle before the massive deployment of shooters. As more commanders were sniped, troop warfare went from direct engagements to more covered, flanking techniques. Commanders had to try and blend in with the lower-ranking soldiers to keep from being shot. These tactics took battles from an open field to locations that had more cover for both sides such as woods or hills. As more ferocious and hidden techniques were implemented in combat, the rules of engagement that troops before held onto was abandoned.Every side used ghillie suits during WWI to pick off top commanders and break the spirits of enemy armies. The same suit used then is basically mimiced today; suits are constructed from materials that hang down and give the sharpshooter the unbelievable skill to stay unseen. There are several different kinds of the suit so that the shooter can blend in with surroundings no matter what environment they are in. A woodlands ghillie suit, for example, would appear much different than a desert ghillie suit.On important missions the ghillie suit is still implemented for protection and cover by the modern-day sniper. Since a shooter often works solo or with one other person the talent to remain hidden is essential for a sharpshooter's security. Aside from the gun, a well-crafted suit to hide the sniper is a sniper's most critical asset. A shooter's safety would be extremely compromised if they didn't have the ability to remain hidden until it was time to shoot. The getaway after a shot was taken is just as crucial to a shooter as the actual shot. The ghillie suit adorned by the sniper is often used many times during a retreat.
